FCE Use of English Part 4 是整份考卷最讓台灣學生焦慮的一題。
題目長這樣:
Rewrite the sentence using the key word given, in 2-5 words, without changing the meaning.
Original: She started learning French three years ago. Key word: BEEN Transformation: She has ______ three years.
Answer: been learning French for
2-5 個字。必須用那個 key word。意思不能變。聽起來像一種 puzzle 題——確實是。
為什麼這題這麼難?
因為它考的不是文法規則,是搭配語的反射(collocational knowledge)。
舉例:had better + 原形動詞 / provided that + 子句 / no sooner... than... 倒裝——這些不是背文法表能背出來的,是大量閱讀累積出來的「自然感」。
台灣學生因為讀得少,所以在 Part 4 常常卡 3-4 題。
10 個高頻改寫模式
劍橋 FCE 2018-2024 年的 Part 4 題目抽樣,90% 的題目落在這 10 個模式裡。
1. 被動語態
They built this bridge in 1890. → BUILT This bridge ______ 1890. Answer: was built in
2. 報告句(reported speech)
"I will call you tomorrow," he said. → SAID He ______ me the next day. Answer: said he would call
3. 條件句(混合條件)
I didn't study, so I failed. → STUDIED If I ______ have failed. Answer: had studied, I wouldn't
4. 倒裝句
She didn't realise the truth until later. → ONLY ______ did she realise the truth. Answer: Only later
5. 分裂句(cleft)
I really love his sense of humour. → WHAT ______ his sense of humour. Answer: What I really love is
6. 片語動詞
The meeting was cancelled because of the rain. → OFF The rain ______ meeting. Answer: called off the
7. 固定搭配
She doesn't like waiting at all. → STAND She ______ at all. Answer: can't stand waiting
8. 比較結構
I've never read a better book than this one. → BEST This is ______ ever read. Answer: the best book I've
9. 使役結構
Someone is fixing my car. → HAVING I ______ fixed. Answer: am having my car
10. 回顧性情態(modal retrospection)
Perhaps she forgot the meeting. → HAVE She ______ the meeting. Answer: might have forgotten
記住:這 10 個模式涵蓋 9 成題目。考前 2 週每天練 1 模式 × 3 題——20 題就搞定一個模式。
部分分策略——永遠要寫東西
FCE Part 4 每題滿分 2 分。但是它會分段給分:
- 改寫對 一部分 → 1 分
- 全對 → 2 分
- 整題空白 → 0 分
所以絕對不要空白。就算你只知道「大概要用現在完成式」,也把 have + 過去分詞 的骨架寫上去,搞不好拿 1 分。
真實例子:
She regrets not going to the party. → WISHES She ______ to the party.
Full answer: wishes she had gone(2 分) Partial: wishes she went(1 分——文法不對,但結構對) Blank: 0 分
1 分 × 6 題 Part 4 = 6 分。佔整份 Use of English 的 12%。別小看。
我的考場 SOP
- 讀 key word(不要先讀題)
- 遮住改寫那句的空格,只看 key word 跟原句
- 問:「這 word 最自然跟什麼搭配?」
- 再看空格的起始跟結尾——確認長度合理
- 寫下答案
- 數字數——2-5 個字,不能超
台灣學生 5 個最常被扣分的小地方
- 動詞變化忘記:She wishes she go → 應該是 went / had gone。
- key word 改變型態:題目給 BUILT,你寫了 building——零分。key word 完全不能改。
- contractions 算幾個字?:don't = 2 個字(do + not)。it's = 2 個字。考場小心計算。
- 超過 5 個字:超過一個字都可能扣分。寫完數手指。
- 多餘的詞:She has been learning French for about three years. → about 沒必要,刪掉。
