Speaking Part 1 的 "Tell me about your hometown"每 10 個台灣考生有 9 個被問的經典題——也是最容易答成 Band 5.5 的題。

Examiner: Tell me about your hometown. What is it like?

Version A — Band 6(約 30 秒,逐字稿)

"Um, my hometown is Taichung. It's a city in the middle of Taiwan. It is quite big and there are many people, maybe two million. The weather is hot in summer and a little bit cold in winter, not very cold. The food is good — we have many night markets and famous snacks. I like my hometown because my family is there and I grew up there. Yeah, that's my hometown."

Version B — Band 7(約 35 秒,逐字稿)

"I'm from Taichung, which is the second-largest city in Taiwan, right in the middle of the island. It's known for having quite a pleasant climate — not as humid as Taipei and warmer than the north in winter, so honestly it's one of the most liveable spots in the country, I'd say. What I love most about it is the food scene — we've got Fengjia Night Market, which is famous nationwide, and the whole city is obsessed with bubble tea, which actually started in Taichung, believe it or not. It's where I grew up, so there's a real emotional pull for me."

Version C — Band 8(約 38 秒,逐字稿)

"I grew up in Taichung, which sits more or less in the geographic centre of Taiwan — so it's this interesting middle ground between the political intensity of Taipei up north and the slower, more tropical feel of the south. It's often described as the most liveable city in the country, and I'd go along with that — the climate is genuinely forgiving, the urban layout is more spacious than Taipei's, and culturally it punches above its weight. It's also, as it happens, the birthplace of bubble tea, which I mention more often than I should. Honestly, the older I get, the more I appreciate how well it balances size and character."

1. Fluency & Coherence

| Band | 停頓 / 填詞 | 連貫 | 證據 | |------|-------------|------|------| | 6 | Um, ... maybe ... a little bit ... Yeah — 多次填詞、結尾散 | 想到什麼說什麼、無主線 | "It is quite big and there are many people, maybe two million." | | 7 | 幾乎無填詞,偶有 honestly / I'd say | 有主線(climate → food → personal) | "What I love most about it is the food scene — we've got Fengjia Night Market..." | | 8 | 無填詞、節奏自然、帶 self-aware humour | 有主題(middle groundliveable)並回扣自己 | "I grew up in Taichung, which sits more or less in the geographic centre of Taiwan — so it's this interesting middle ground..." |

2. Lexical Resource

| Band | 詞彙 | 證據 | |------|------|------| | 6 | big / hot / good / I like — 基礎 | "The weather is hot in summer and a little bit cold in winter" | | 7 | pleasant climate / liveable / food scene / obsessed with / emotional pull | "one of the most liveable spots in the country, I'd say" | | 8 | middle ground / forgiving (climate) / punches above its weight / as it happens / the older I get, the more I appreciate | "culturally it punches above its weight" — idiomatic 且精準 |

3. Grammatical Range

| Band | 句型 | 證據 | |------|------|------| | 6 | 簡單句;and / but / because 連接 | "I like my hometown because my family is there and I grew up there." | | 7 | Relative clause + participle + 比較級 | "...which is the second-largest city in Taiwan, right in the middle of the island." | | 8 | 複雜從屬、as-clause、倒裝、片段修辭 | "the older I get, the more I appreciate how well it balances size and character." |

5. Task Response —

| Band | 回答深度 | |------|----------| | 6 | 列資訊(size, weather, food, family)—— 但沒給角度 | | 7 | 有觀點(one of the most liveable spots)+ 具體證據(Fengjia, bubble tea) | | 8 | 有敘事(middle ground between Taipei and the south)+ 自我反思(the older I get...) |

Takeaway — Band 6

升級 1:停用 "quite / a little bit / very / maybe"

Band 6 的回答塞滿模糊程度詞:quite big, a little bit cold, maybe two million。

  • quite bigone of the larger cities in Taiwan, with over two million people
  • a little bit coldmild rather than cold — typically around 15 degrees in January
  • very hotgenuinely uncomfortable in July, often above 34

  • I'd say it's the most liveable city in Taiwan.
  • Honestly, it punches above its weight.
  • What I love most is...

(I'd say / honestly / what I love most)把「陳述」變成「觀點」。

Band 6:Taichung is a city. It is in the middle of Taiwan. Band 7:Taichung, which sits more or less in the geographic centre of Taiwan, ...

練習:錄自己講 30 秒家鄉,回聽時找出所有 It is / They are 開頭的句子——用 which / where / who 連進上一句。
