一句話用法：表達強烈但仍可辯論的觀點——「可以這麼說」、「不誇張地說」。
意思
Arguably (adv.) = 可以說是、有理由認為。
它不是「也許」（perhaps）那種猶豫——而是「我有理由說 X，雖然有人會反對」。Band 7 寫作非常喜歡這種自信但留餘地的調性。
自然搭配
- English is arguably the most important language for international business today.
- The internet is arguably the most transformative invention of the past century.
- Reading widely is arguably more useful than memorising vocabulary lists.
- Tokyo is arguably one of the cleanest megacities in the world.
- Arguably, the biggest challenge facing young people today is the cost of housing.
注意——arguably 通常放在 be 動詞後 或 句首，加在 the most / the biggest 等最高級前面尤其漂亮。
學生常犯的錯
把 arguably 跟 probably 搞混：
Tokyo is probably the cleanest megacity. ← 「我猜是」 Tokyo is arguably the cleanest megacity. ← 「有理由說是」
語感差很多——probably 偏猜測，arguably 偏論證。寫 Task 2 表達主張時，arguably 比 probably 更有立場感。
另一個錯——後面接子句：
Arguably that English is important. ← 錯 Arguably, English is important. ← 對（後面接完整句子，前面加逗號）
Band 7 同義替換
避免重複，輪流使用：
- it could be argued that...——It could be argued that English is the most important language today.
- without a doubt（語氣更強，沒有 arguably 那麼多保留空間）
兩個並用：開場 Arguably，後面換 It could be argued that——一篇文章兩種說法不重複。
