Compelling (adj.) — evoking interest, attention, or admiration in a powerfully irresistible way; (of an argument or evidence) strong enough to convince.

Compelling 不是普通的「強」——是「強到讓人不得不接受」。

  1. There is compelling evidence that early intervention improves long-term outcomes.

常見錯誤

搭配記住四組：compelling reason / compelling evidence / compelling argument / compelling case。其他名詞要小心——別寫 a compelling phone 或 a compelling weather。

意義偏移：別把 compelling 當 forced——She was compelled to leave 是「被迫」（動詞 compel 的過去分詞），但形容詞 compelling 是「有說服力」。詞性決定意義。

過度使用：一篇 Task 2 用一次就夠——重複會讓論述顯得空洞。

同等級替換（Band 7+）

  • Convincing — The defence put forward a convincing alibi.
  • Persuasive — He made a persuasive argument for delaying the launch.
