Detrimental (adj.) =
固定搭配 detrimental to + 名詞——介系詞用 to,不是 for。
- Excessive screen time can be detrimental to children's cognitive development.
- Air pollution has a detrimental effect on respiratory health.
- Cutting funding to public libraries would be detrimental to rural communities.
- Stress, when prolonged, is detrimental to both mental and physical wellbeing.
- Although fast food is convenient, regular consumption is detrimental to long-term health.
兩個固定搭配記起來——detrimental to + 受影響者、a detrimental effect on + 受影響者——直接套進 Task 2。
Smoking is detrimental for your health. ← 錯(介系詞錯) Smoking is detrimental to your health. ← 對
口訣:detrimental 後面永遠接 to,不接 for。
The rain was detrimental to my picnic. ← 過頭(用 spoil 就好) Long-term air pollution is detrimental to public health.
Band 7
- harmful (to)——harmful to the environment(介系詞也是 to)
- adverse (effect on)——an adverse effect on the economy
