寫 Task 2 想說「這個議題特別切題」、「最相關的問題是」時，relevant 太平淡。Pertinent 就是它的升級版——多了「正中要害」的意味。

字義

Pertinent (adj.) — relevant or applicable to a particular matter; directly bearing on the issue at hand.

跟 relevant 的差別：relevant = 有關；***pertinent* = 不只有關，還切中要點**。

Register 注意：***Pertinent* 偏正式書面**——Speaking Part 1/2 用會略嚴肅；Part 3 思辨題、Task 2 立論段才是它的主場。

過度使用：一篇文章一次就好——pertinent 是「強調某點特別切題」的字，到處用就失去重量。

同等級替換（Band 7+）

  • Relevant — All relevant evidence has been submitted.（最安全的萬用字）
  • Apt — His remark was apt, given the circumstances.（更口語、更輕巧）
