Pivotal (adj.) — of crucial importance in relation to the development or success of something else; central, like a pivot around which everything turns.
- Teachers play a pivotal role in shaping a child's lifelong attitude to learning.
- The 1989 reforms were a pivotal moment in modern economic history.
- Mobile payment technology has been pivotal to financial inclusion in rural areas.
- Clean water remains a pivotal factor in any meaningful poverty-reduction strategy.
- Her testimony proved pivotal in securing the conviction.
(Band 7+)
- Crucial — Crucial decisions were made in the first 48 hours.
- Central — Trust is central to any lasting partnership.
