但考生反覆寫 then... then... then...

Subsequently (adv.) — after a particular event or point in time; later on, in a formal or written context.

  1. The proposal was rejected and subsequently revised by a smaller working group.
  2. Bricks are first moulded and then fired; the cooled bricks are subsequently stacked for transport.
  3. She joined the firm in 2010 and was subsequently promoted to director.
  4. Initial trials showed promise; subsequently, the drug was approved for wider use.
  5. The library was destroyed in the war and was subsequently rebuilt with international funding.

(Subsequently, the policy was scrapped.) (The policy was subsequently scrapped.)。

意義偏移:別把 subsequentlyconsequently(因此)——一個是時間順序,一個是因果關係。

Register 注意:Speaking 用 subsequently 略生硬——閒聊中用 then / after that / later on 即可;Writing 才換成 subsequently

(Band 7+)

  • ThereafterHe left in 1995; thereafter, the firm declined rapidly.(更正式)
  • LaterThe committee later reversed its decision.(更中性)
