Receptionist: Seaview Hotel, reservations, good morning.

Michael: Morning. I'd like to book a room for three nights, please — arriving on the eighteenth of May.

Receptionist: Certainly, sir. Three nights from the eighteenth, so checking out on the twenty-first. May I have your name?

Michael: Michael Wainwright. W-A-I-N-W-R-I-G-H-T.

Receptionist: Thank you, Mr Wainwright. Now, what type of room were you after? We have a Standard Double at ninety pounds, a Sea-View Double at one hundred and ten, and a Family Suite at one hundred and forty-five.

Michael: The Sea-View sounds lovely, but — actually, on reflection, the Standard would do, I'm on business.

Receptionist: Standard Double, three nights. That's two hundred and seventy pounds total. Breakfast is included — it's served from seven to ten in the restaurant on the ground floor.

Michael: Is there parking?

Receptionist: Yes, we have a small car park at the rear. It's free for guests, but you'll need to register your vehicle at reception on arrival.

Michael: My registration number is GY63 — sorry, that's my old car — it's LR19 KPT now.

Receptionist: LR19 KPT. Lovely. How would you like to pay?

Michael: Credit card. It's a Mastercard, number 5412 8867 2301 — wait, 2301 9954.

Receptionist: So the full number is 5412 8867 2301 9954. Expiry?

Michael: August twenty twenty-seven.

Receptionist: And a contact number in case we need to reach you?

Michael: A late check-out, if possible? My train isn't until four.

Receptionist: We can hold the room until two p.m. at no extra charge. After that it's an additional twenty-five pounds.

Michael: Two p.m. is fine.
