Receptionist (Megan): Good morning, Oakwood Surgery, Megan speaking.

Liam: Hi, I'd like to book an appointment with a GP, please.

Megan: Of course. Are you registered with us?

Liam: Yes, I joined about a year ago.

Megan: Could I take your full name?

Liam: Liam O'Connor. That's O, apostrophe, C-O-N-N-O-R.

Megan: Thank you. And your NHS number, if you have it?

Liam: Yes, it's 943 — 472 — 6810.

Megan: 943 472 6810. Lovely. Now, what's the issue, briefly?

Liam: I've had a persistent cough for about three weeks. It's worse at night. No fever, but it's affecting my sleep.

Megan: I see. We have three GPs at the surgery. Dr Patel — she's our respiratory specialist. Dr Khan — general but very experienced with allergies. And Dr Henderson — newer to the practice but available sooner. Given the cough, I'd suggest Dr Patel.

Liam: That sounds right. Earliest slot?

Megan: With Dr Patel, the earliest face-to-face is next Wednesday afternoon. Two thirty, three fifteen, or four o'clock.

Liam: Three fifteen, please.

Megan: Booked. Now — actually, just a moment. I see Dr Patel has a training course on Wednesday afternoon. Could we do Thursday at the same time instead?

Liam: Thursday three fifteen — yes, that works.

Megan: Brilliant. We do also offer telephone consultations on the same day if you'd like something sooner — would you prefer that?

Liam: No, I'd rather see her in person.

Megan: Understood. One last thing — please remember to bring a list of any current medications. Also, the surgery has moved temporarily — we're at the church hall on Maple Lane while the main building is being refurbished. The works finish in May.

Liam: Maple Lane — got it. How long is the appointment?

Megan: Standard slots are ten minutes, but for a three-week persistent cough, Dr Patel will book a double — twenty minutes.

Liam: Perfect, thank you.
