Welcome to the Whitfield Maritime Museum, everyone. My name's Eleanor and I'll be your guide for the next hour. Before we set off, let me give you the lay of the land so you can find your way around afterwards on your own.

The museum is set out across two floors and a courtyard. We're standing now in the main entrance hall, which doubles as the ticket lobby. Directly in front of you, beyond the turnstile, is the shipbuilding gallery — that's our flagship exhibition, with three large vessel models suspended from the ceiling. Many of you will want to head there first.

To the left of the shipbuilding gallery, you'll find the navigation room, full of antique sextants, compasses, and chronometers. And opposite the navigation room — that is, on the right side of the shipbuilding gallery — is the maps and charts gallery, with hand-drawn sea charts dating back to the seventeenth century.

Now, before you reach those galleries, just past the turnstile on your left, there's a small cloakroom where you can leave bags and coats. Please don't carry large bags around the galleries.

Heading further into the museum, beyond the shipbuilding gallery, you'll come to a small inner courtyard with a real anchor and a children's climbing frame shaped like a ship's prow. The courtyard is open today — usually it closes if it rains, but the forecast looks good.

Around the courtyard are three smaller spaces. On the courtyard's north side is the interactive zone — that's where children can try tying sailor's knots, send a Morse code message, and steer a ship's wheel simulator. To the east of the courtyard is the whaling exhibit, which is a more sobering space — please be aware it includes some historical hunting tools that some visitors find upsetting. And on the west side of the courtyard is the café, serving hot drinks and light lunches all day.

Upstairs — accessed by either the main staircase to the right of the entrance hall, or the lift just past the cloakroom — you'll find two further spaces. The temporary exhibition gallery runs our current Polar Voyages display, on until the end of August. And next to it is the archive reading room, which is by appointment only — speak to staff at the desk if you'd like access.

A few practical points before we start. Photography is permitted in all galleries except the temporary exhibition. Toilets are downstairs, just before the courtyard, on your left. The shop is by the exit on the ground floor. And our family event today, Tales from the Sea, runs at two p.m. in the interactive zone — it lasts forty-five minutes and is suitable for ages five and up.

Right — let's begin in the shipbuilding gallery. Follow me through the turnstile.

Answer Key with Trap Analysis

| # | Answer | Key moment in transcript | 陷阱 / 注意 | |---|---------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|----------------------------------------------------------------------| | 1 | B | "Directly in front of you, beyond the turnstile, is the shipbuilding gallery" | directly in front = opposite entrance. | | 2 | C | "To the left of the shipbuilding gallery, you'll find the navigation room" | 從說話者視角的 left。 | | 3 | A | "just past the turnstile on your left, there's a small cloakroom" | 不要與 toilets 混淆——toilets 在樓梯前。 | | 4 | E | "On the courtyard's north side is the interactive zone" | 注意題目用的方位詞與錄音一致。 | | 5 | G | "on the west side of the courtyard is the café" | 干擾:whaling exhibit 在東側、interactive 在北側,café 在西側。 | | 6 | H | "the archive reading room, which is by appointment only" | 直述。 | | 7 | August | "on until the end of August" | 寫月份名,不要寫 8 月或 8/31。 | | 8 | temporary exhibition| "Photography is permitted in all galleries except the temporary exhibition" | 找 except 後面。 | | 9 | 45 / forty-five | "it lasts forty-five minutes" | 不要與 2 p.m.(開始時間)混淆。 | | 10| 5 / five | "suitable for ages five and up" | 同義轉換:minimum recommended age = ages... and up. |

- directly in front of / opposite → 正對面 - to the left of X / on X's left → X 的左邊 - next to X / adjacent to X → 緊鄰 X - past X on your left → 走過 X 後在左 - around the courtyard → 圍繞中庭
