借東西或還東西的信（Borrowing or Returning Something）在 IELTS General Task 1 是語氣判斷題——對象不同，register 也不同：

  2. say when — 借多久 / 何時還（明確時間）
  3. explain conditions or context — 為什麼借、會怎麼保管 / 還的時候狀態如何

台灣考生借/還物信常見錯誤

錯誤 1：誤判語氣

Dear Mr Daniel, I am writing to return your Canon camera, which I borrowed on the 5th of April... — 對好朋友寫成 formal，過度疏遠扣分。看到 a friend 就 informal。

錯誤 2：物品描述太籠統

I'm returning your camera — 哪台？黑色那台？借走的整組？改成 I've finally got your Canon back to you — I left it on your desk this morning with the lens cap and the spare battery, both safely in the original case. — 物品 + 配件 + 位置全交代。

錯誤 3：bullet 3 隱藏問題不說

借到的東西有小擦傷或小狀況，不要假裝沒事——朋友之後發現會比你坦承還傷感情。Band 7+ 教科書式處理：I do have to confess one small thing — + 補救 + 證據。

錯誤 4：semi-formal 寫成 informal
