Summary Completion 是 IELTS Reading 的中間難度題型——不像 T/F/NG 那麼燒腦,但有獨特陷阱:字數限制、文法吻合、同義轉換。掌握這三點後,Summary Completion 常能拿 8-9/10。
兩種版本

有字庫版的陷阱
考生看到字庫會安心——但字庫通常是名詞、動詞、形容詞混合。即使不看文章,用文法也能刪掉一半選項。
無字庫版的鐵律
- 必須從文章直接複製單字
- 不能改單複數(原文 teachers 就寫 teachers)
- 不能改時態(原文 declined 就寫 declined)
- 不能用自己的同義字替換
- 字數限制絕對(NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS = 2 字為上限,寫 3 字 = 0 分)
核心策略:先讀 summary 再掃文章
違反直覺的做法——但正確:
Step 1 — 讀完整 summary(含空格)
不要一開始就對照文章。先把整段 summary 讀完,空格先假設是「X」。目的:
- 掌握 summary 要表達的主要概念
- 辨識 summary 對應文章哪個段落 / 哪個區塊
- 每個空格預測詞類(名詞?動詞?形容詞?)
Step 2 — 定位文章區塊
Summary 通常只對應文章1-2 個段落(不是全文)。定位後,後面填空只在這個範圍掃描。
Step 3 — 文法預測
在每個空格旁邊寫:

這一步把字庫從 10 個選項刪到 3-4 個——剩下的再回文章對照。
Step 4 — 掃文章,找同義轉換
Summary 永遠用同義字重寫文章。你找的不是「相同的字」,是「相同的概念」。
範例 1:有字庫版
文章段落(虛構但可信)
The rise of mobile banking in Kenya has transformed how rural communities manage money. M-Pesa, launched in 2007, now reaches over 90% of Kenyan adults. Unlike traditional banks, which require proof of income and a fixed address, M-Pesa only needs a basic phone number. This accessibility has allowed millions of informal workers — street vendors, small farmers, seasonal labourers — to save, send, and receive money for the first time.
Summary
Kenya's financial landscape shifted dramatically with the introduction of M-Pesa in 2007. The service now covers most (1) _______ in the country. 注意:字庫裡 rural, documents, formal, passport, mobile 都是干擾項——它們出現或與文章主題相關,但不符合語法或意義。

文章段落
Honeybees communicate the location of food sources through a behaviour known as the waggle dance. A returning forager performs a figure-of-eight pattern on the comb; the angle of the waggle run encodes direction relative to the sun, while the duration of the run indicates distance. Remarkably, nearby bees interpret this dance in total darkness, using only vibration and touch — not vision.
Summary

陷阱:空格 1 很多人寫 waggle dance(2 字)——但題目已經寫了 known as the waggle dance,重複填會語意重覆。原文裡和 waggle dance 對應的上位詞是 behaviour。
同義轉換的常見陷阱
Summary 永遠改寫文章。如果你找一模一樣的字,常常找不到。下面是一些典型同義對照:

看到 summary 用 important——文章可能寫 crucial。定位靠上下文,不是單字。
字數限制:一個殘酷範例

連字號 (hyphen) 算一個字:well-known = 1 字。數字算一個字:$500 = 1 字。
