教育題的「下半場」幾乎都通往未來——"What skills will be most useful in 30 years?" / "Should schools teach coding?" 這種預測題,台灣考生常因為怕說錯而不敢推測,結果答得太短。Band 7+ 的關鍵是用 hedging 大膽預測

5 題代表題 + Band 7+ 範例

Q1. What skills will be most useful in the future job market?

I’d say it depends on which field, but generally speaking, the skills that will hold up best are the ones AI struggles with — complex judgment, emotional intelligence and creative problem-solving. Technical skills will keep changing, so arguably the meta-skill of "learning how to learn" matters more than any specific tool. In Taiwan, that’s a real shift from the exam-driven mindset most schools still reward.

Q2. Will traditional academic subjects become less important?

Probably not less important, but their role will shift. Subjects like history and literature won’t disappear — they shape how students think — but they may need to share space with newer fields like data literacy and ethics of AI. On the whole I’d say it’s about balance: classical subjects build the mind, while modern ones build the toolkit.

Q3. Could online learning replace traditional schools entirely?

For motivated adults, yes — that’s already happening with platforms like Coursera. For children, though, I’d argue probably not. School is partly about academics, but it’s also where children learn social cues, conflict resolution, and how to collaborate. A laptop can teach algebra; it can’t really teach you how to share or wait your turn.

Q4. Should governments make subjects like coding compulsory?

I’d be cautious about that. Coding is a useful skill, but making it compulsory risks repeating the same mistake we made with rote memorisation — turning a creative discipline into a test-prep grind. Estonia introduced coding in primary school years ago and the results are mixed. Arguably, what students need first is computational thinking, which can be taught without ever writing a line of code.

Q5. Why is lifelong learning becoming more important?

Mainly because the half-life of a skill is shrinking. A degree used to last a career; now arguably it lasts five to ten years before parts of it become outdated. Add to that longer working lives — most of us will work into our late 60s — and continuous upskilling stops being optional. It’s now a survival skill, especially in fast-moving fields like tech and finance.

台灣考生常見陷阱:怕預測

台灣考生看到 "What will... in 30 years?" 容易答 "I don’t know, hard to say"——這在 Part 3 算 not engaging,分數封頂 6.0。

修正:用 hedging 大膽推測:

Honestly, hard to say with any certainty — but I’d expect AI tutors to handle a lot of individualised practice, freeing teachers to focus on discussion. The physical school probably won’t disappear, though — its real value was never just academic.

承認不確定 + 仍然推測 = Band 7+。
