Speaking Part 3 的經典開頭:

Examiner: Do you think technology is making children lazy? You: Hmm, it depends.

聽起來深思熟慮。實際上——Band 5.5。

為什麼扣分

Speaking 評的是你說多少英文,不是你答得多精準。It depends 有兩個問題:

  1. 太短——只有兩個字,之後你開始重組答案、結巴、停頓。
  2. 太模糊——考官還是要追問「depends on what?」你還是要給出具體答案。早晚都要選邊,那為什麼不直接開門見山?

替代開頭(仍然誠實)

如果你真的覺得兩邊都有理,用這幾個開頭——兩邊都講到,但先選一邊主軸:

  1. I think it's largely true, although it obviously depends on the context. For most children these days, I'd say yes — because...
  1. My instinct is to agree, but with one caveat...
  1. Broadly speaking, I'd lean towards saying yes. Let me explain why...
  1. There are arguments on both sides, but if I had to pick one, I'd say...

這幾個開頭看起來更 thoughtful,還有動力帶出具體答案——不會卡住。

It depends. Some kids yes, some kids no. Because technology is… you know, both.

My instinct is to agree, at least for the majority of children today. When kids can get instant answers from a phone, they naturally practise patience and problem-solving less. That said, I'd distinguish between passive consumption — like watching endless short videos — and active use, such as coding or creative apps. The former probably does make children lazier; the latter, arguably, the opposite.
