It is widely believed that smartphones are destroying children's brains.

❌ Bad / ✅ Better 對照

| ❌ 假權威 | ✅ 老實的版本 | |---------|------------| | It is widely believed that homework is harmful. | Critics argue that excessive homework harms children — though evidence is mixed. | | It is commonly known that the internet has bad effects. | I would argue that heavy internet use carries real costs. | | Everyone agrees that exercise is essential. | Public health bodies broadly agree that regular exercise is essential. | | It is a fact that traditional education is outdated. | Some commentators view traditional education as outdated, although classroom learning still produces strong outcomes when well-resourced. |

Many parents feel that... / Educators tend to argue that... / Health professionals warn that...

I would argue that... / In my view... / The case can be made that...

Studies cited in [type of source] suggest that...

「Believed」

| ❌ 模糊 | ✅ 具體 | |--------|--------| | It is widely believed | It is widely believed among parents that... | | People often think | Critics of the policy often think... | | Society agrees | Western societies broadly agree on... | | It is generally accepted | It is generally accepted in the medical community that... |

Quick Rewrite Drill

  1. It is widely believed that fast food causes obesity.
  2. Everyone knows that learning English is essential.
  3. It is a fact that working from home is better.
  4. People generally think social media is dangerous.
  5. It is commonly accepted that traditional families are best.
  6. We all agree that climate change is the biggest threat.

Answer Key

| # | ✅ 重寫 | |---|--------| | 1 | Public health authorities link frequent fast-food consumption to rising obesity rates, although portion size and lifestyle play larger roles than the food category alone. | | 2 | English fluency carries real economic value in many sectors, even if its "essential" status is overstated for those whose careers stay local. | | 3 | Some employees report higher productivity at home; others find it isolating — the truth depends on the role and the worker. | | 4 | Concerns about social media's effect on adolescent mental health are widespread among educators and clinicians. | | 5 | Traditional family structures retain strong cultural support in many societies, although alternative arrangements have become equally common in others. | | 6 | I would argue that climate change presents the gravest long-term threat, though pandemics and conflict compete for the same attention. |
