考場 Q&A 示範

Q&A 1:Part 2 — Describe a person you admire

The person I most look up to is my cousin Amy. I grew up spending every summer at her house, and I really take after her in a lot of ways — we're both stubborn, both love reading, and both hopeless at sports.

What I admire most is how she treats people. She's never looked down on anyone, and she's always stood up for me when my parents were being unfair. Even when we fall out occasionally, we make up within hours because neither of us can hold a grudge. I think that's why we've never drifted apart, even though she lives abroad now.

Q&A 2:Part 3 — Why do childhood friendships sometimes end?

Honestly, I think most childhood friendships drift apart naturally. When you grow up, you stop going to the same school, you get along with different people at university or work, and slowly you just have less in common. Sometimes friends fall out over specific incidents — a betrayal, a misunderstanding — and never fully make up. But more often, it's not that dramatic. You just open up less, stop backing each other up, and one day you realise you haven't spoken in a year.

Q&A 3:Part 2 — Describe a family member you are close to

I'm closest to my mum. She brought me up largely on her own after my parents separated, so we've always been more like friends than mother and daughter. I get along with her better than anyone else — we hit it off in a weird way where we just finish each other's sentences.

She's the person I open up to when I'm stressed, and she's backed me up on every big decision, even the ones she disagreed with. I don't want to let her down, which is partly why I work so hard at university.

Phrasal let down 比正式字 disappoint 自然。

"I don't want to let my parents down." > "I don't want to disappoint my parents."

stand up for vs stand up to

  • stand up for sb = 維護某人(支持)
  • stand up to sb = 對抗某人(抗衡)

題目Describe someone who influenced you when you were young.

目標:塞 5-6 個人際 phrasal verbs。

I want to talk about my neighbour Mrs Lin, who had a huge impact on me as I was growing up. She lived next door throughout my childhood, and since my parents both worked long hours, she ended up bringing me up alongside her own kids in a way.

I looked up to her because she was one of the few adults who actually stood up for me when I got in trouble — she backed me up the time I accidentally broke a neighbour's window, and she opened up to me about her own struggles as a young mum. We'd hit it off from the start when I was about five, and even now we still keep in touch every few weeks.

I think the reason I've never drifted apart from her is that she never made me feel I had to put up with being treated as a child — she spoke to me like an equal.
