考場 Q&A 示範
Q&A 1:Part 2 — Describe a project you worked on
Last semester my team carried out a market research project for a local coffee shop. The owner wanted to figure out why younger customers weren't coming in, so we set up online surveys and ran three focus groups to look into their preferences.
What I enjoyed most was that everyone brought up different ideas — one teammate pointed out that we were missing aesthetic factors, which we hadn't thought about. We came up with five recommendations in total and put forward a final report to the owner. I handed in my sections a week early, and we wrapped up the whole project with a really positive response from the client.
用了:carry out / figure out / set up / look into / bring up / point out / come up with / put forward / hand in / wrap up——10 個!90 秒裡 10 個 phrasal verbs 聽起來完全自然——因為工作描述就應該這樣講。
Q&A 2:Part 3 — How do students cope with exam stress?
I think different students deal with stress in different ways. Some go over their notes obsessively until they can recite them, which I don't think is healthy. Others work out — running or gym sessions — to clear their head. In my case, I try to catch up on sleep as much as possible, because I've figured out that exhaustion makes everything feel worse.
Universities could also do more — for example, setting up free counselling and reminding students to narrow down what they actually need to revise, instead of trying to cover everything.
用了:deal with / go over / work out / catch up on / figure out / set up / narrow down——7 個。
Q&A 3:Part 2 — Describe a skill you took up recently
Six months ago I took up digital illustration. I'd been wanting to for ages, but kept putting it off until a friend backed up my decision by lending me her old tablet. I started by going over free YouTube tutorials every evening — the basics were harder to figure out than I expected.
The biggest challenge was dealing with my own perfectionism. Every drawing felt terrible, but my friend pointed out that this is normal for the first three months. Now I can actually work out how to draw a portrait — not professionally, but enough to enjoy it.
用了:take up / put off / back up / go over / figure out / deal with / point out / work out——8 個。
容易混淆的三組
catch up on vs catch up with
- catch up on sth = 補某件事的進度:catch up on homework / sleep / news
- catch up with sb = 跟某人敘舊:catch up with an old friend
look into vs look for
- look into = 研究、調查(深入):look into the causes
- look for = 尋找、找尋(表面):look for my keys
work out 三個意思
- 運動:I work out three times a week.
- 解出:I worked out the problem.
- 發展得好:Everything worked out in the end.
三個都常用,講完脈絡自然清楚意思。
陷阱:大字動詞 vs phrasal verb
| 情境 | 考生愛用(Band 6)| 英語人會用(Band 7)| |------------------|-------------------|----------------------| | 執行實驗 | execute | carry out | | 研究問題 | investigate | look into | | 解決問題 | resolve | work out | | 想出點子 | invent / devise | come up with | | 繳交作業 | submit | hand in | | 結束會議 | conclude | wrap up |
大字不是錯——但在 Speaking 過度使用就是錯。Band 7 要的是自然 > 正式。
