Q1. What do you remember most about your childhood?

Honestly, the long summers at my grandparents' place in Yilan — they had a small farm, so my brother and I basically ran wild for two months a year. I remember the smell of rice paddies after rain, my grandmother shouting at us for tracking mud through the kitchen, and falling asleep in front of an electric fan with the news on in the background. Sensory stuff, mostly.

Q2. Were you a well-behaved child?

A mixed bag, I'd say — I was the quiet one in class, so teachers thought I was an angel, but at home I was apparently impossible. My parents still bring up the time I cut my own hair with kitchen scissors at six because I'd seen it in a cartoon. So technically obedient at school, completely chaotic in private.

Q3. What did you enjoy doing as a child?

A few things stand out — I was obsessed with drawing, to the point that my desk was always covered in cartoons of made-up superheroes. I also loved watching wrestling on TV, which my mum hated. And I had a long phase of riding my bike around the neighbourhood pretending I was on a quest, which sounds embarrassing but felt very serious at the time.

Q4. Did you have many friends as a child?

A small group, mostly — I wasn't the kid with twenty friends, but I had three or four close ones I saw every day at school and most weekends. Two of them I'm still in touch with, which I think is fairly rare. Looking back, I wish I'd been a bit braver about meeting new people, but I was content with my small circle.

Q5. Do you think children today have a different childhood from yours?

Quite different, yeah — the most obvious thing is screens. We had a desktop computer at home but spent most of our time outside; my niece is six and already has more screen time in a week than I had in a year. On the upside, kids today have a much wider window onto the world. It's a trade-off, honestly, not strictly worse.

Band 6: I remember playing with my friends. We played games in the park. I was very happy when I was a child.
