Q1. What kind of music do you like?

I'm pretty broad, actually — my Spotify is genuinely all over the place. The default is probably indie, the kind of mellow guitar-driven stuff you'd hear in a coffee shop, but I'll switch to something with more energy if I'm working out. I've also got a soft spot for older Mandopop ballads, mostly out of nostalgia for what my parents used to play in the car.

Q2. Has the music you like changed over the years?

Quite a lot, yeah — in high school I was deeply into K-pop, almost embarrassingly so, with the wall posters and the choreography videos. By university I'd drifted into Western indie and electronic stuff. These days I lean towards quieter, less demanding music — jazz instrumentals while I work, that kind of thing. The energy I had for chasing new releases just isn't there any more.

Q3. Do you ever listen to live music?

Not nearly as often as I'd like. The last proper concert I went to was a small indie band at Legacy Taipei about a year ago, and I remember thinking I should make a habit of it. Live music has an atmosphere recordings can't really replicate — even an average band sounds better in a packed room than through earbuds on the MRT.

Q4. Is music important in your country?

Genuinely, yes — Taiwan has produced some of the most influential Mandopop artists of the last twenty years, and you'll hear music almost everywhere: cafés, MRT stations, even garbage trucks playing Für Elise. There's also a really vibrant indie scene in Taipei now, with venues like The Wall hosting local bands almost every weekend.

Q5. Do you prefer listening to music alone or with others?

Mostly alone, to be honest — I treat music as a solo activity, something that goes with commuting, cooking, or working. With other people, I find I can't really focus on the music itself; it becomes background noise to a conversation. The exception is a live gig, where the whole point is sharing the experience.

Band 6: I like pop music. Mayday is my favourite band. Their songs are very nice and I listen to them every day.
