Q1. How often do you use public transport?

Daily, basically — I take the MRT to work most weekdays, which is roughly a 25-minute ride from Da'an to my office near Taipei Main. At weekends I'll usually combine the MRT with a YouBike for the last mile, especially if I'm heading somewhere along the riverside. I genuinely couldn't function in this city without it.

Q2. What kind of public transport do you usually use?

Mostly the MRT, hands down — it's the spine of how I move around Taipei. I'll take a bus if I'm going somewhere awkward off the main line, although I find them slower and harder to predict. For longer trips, like visiting my parents in Taichung, the high-speed rail is unbeatable; door to door, it's actually faster than driving.

Where it falls short is the rural side: if you're in a small town in Yilan or Hualien, you're basically dependent on a car or scooter. The contrast between urban and rural transport is sharper than people sometimes realise.

Steadily, yeah — the MRT network keeps expanding, with new lines opening every few years. The Easycard system has gone from a metro card to something you can use almost everywhere, including 7-Eleven. The high-speed rail being extended down to Pingtung is the next big change everyone's waiting on. Small upgrades that genuinely add up over time.

Q5. Do you prefer public transport or driving?

Public transport, without question — driving in Taipei is honestly more stressful than it's worth, between the scooter traffic and the parking nightmare. The MRT lets me read, listen to a podcast, or just zone out, which I genuinely value. The only time I'd rather drive is heading somewhere remote at the weekend, where buses simply don't go.
