Q1. What do you usually do at weekends?

A bit of a mix, really — Saturdays tend to be the lazy half of my weekend: a slow brunch, maybe a wander around a night market like Raohe in the evening. Sundays are when I actually try to get something done, whether that's meeting up with friends, going for a hike, or catching up on life admin I've been avoiding all week.

Q2. Do you prefer spending weekends with friends or family?

Honestly, a bit of both — I try to see my parents at least one Sunday a month for lunch, which they appreciate, and the rest of the time I'm usually out with a small group of close friends. I find spending the whole weekend alone leaves me in a strange mood by Sunday night, so I make a point of scheduling at least one social thing.

Q3. Did you spend your weekends differently as a child?

Very differently, yeah — my weekends were basically dictated by cram school. I had maths on Saturday morning and English on Sunday afternoon, which left about one free evening I'd usually spend watching cartoons. It sounds miserable in hindsight, although at the time it felt completely normal because all my friends were doing the same thing.

Q4. Do you think weekends are long enough?

Not really, if I'm being honest — two days disappears alarmingly quickly once you factor in sleeping in, seeing people, and actually doing something fun. I've always envied countries that are experimenting with four-day weeks. An extra day would give me space to properly switch off instead of feeling vaguely rushed from Friday evening to Sunday night.

Q5. What would your ideal weekend look like?

Something fairly unambitious, actually — a slow Saturday morning with coffee and a book, a long afternoon walk somewhere green like Dajia Riverside Park, and dinner with a few close friends at a decent little restaurant. Then Sunday, a proper lie-in, a homemade brunch, and absolutely zero obligations until Monday morning.

Band 6: I usually stay at home and watch TV. Sometimes I go shopping with my friends. I like to relax on weekends.

Band 7+: It varies quite a bit — Saturdays I try to keep slow, usually a long brunch and maybe a wander round a night market in the evening, whereas Sundays I make myself do something more active, like a hike or catching up with friends. I've learnt the hard way that two days spent entirely on the sofa leaves me feeling worse, not better.
