(Solutions & Economy)
| 中文 | 英文 | Band 7+ 例句 | |----------------|-------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 永續發展 | sustainable development | Sustainable development requires aligning economic, social, and environmental goals. | | 循環經濟 | circular economy | A circular economy designs out waste rather than treating it after the fact. | | 再生能源 | renewable energy | Renewable energy now supplies the cheapest electricity in most regions. | | 減緩措施 | mitigation | Mitigation cuts emissions; adaptation manages the warming we have already locked in. | | 適應策略 | adaptation | Coastal adaptation has shifted from optional to essential in every flood-exposed city. |
(Policy & Action)
| 中文 | 英文 | Band 7+ 例句 | |----------------|-------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 碳稅 | carbon tax | A well-designed carbon tax internalises the costs that emitters currently externalise. | | 碳交易 | emissions trading | Emissions trading schemes work only when allowances are progressively tightened. | | 公正轉型 | just transition | A just transition cushions workers in declining industries rather than abandoning them. | | 環評 | environmental impact assessment | Robust environmental impact assessments routinely save the projects they delay. | | 永續性 | sustainability | Sustainability has shifted from a corporate side-project to a board-level priority. |
| 中文 | Collocation | 示範 | |------------------|-----------------------------------|----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 緩解氣候變遷 | mitigate climate change | Mitigating climate change at scale requires coordinated international policy. | | 減少碳排 | cut carbon emissions | Cutting carbon emissions in heavy industry is the next decade's hardest task. | | 保育生物多樣性 | conserve biodiversity | Conserving biodiversity demands intact landscapes, not just protected pockets. | | 採取永續做法 | adopt sustainable practices | Mid-sized firms have adopted sustainable practices faster than expected. | | 過渡至再生能源 | transition to renewable energy | Transitioning to renewable energy underpins every credible net-zero plan. | | 推動環境保護 | promote environmental protection | Promoting environmental protection is now mainstream rather than fringe politics. |
| 過度使用 ❌ | Band 7+ 替換 ✓ | |------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | pollution | air pollution / contamination / environmental degradation | | bad for nature | ecologically damaging / detrimental to ecosystems / environmentally harmful | | save the earth | protect the environment / preserve ecosystems / safeguard the planet | | cut down trees | deforestation / habitat clearance / forest loss |
換成 safeguard the planet 或 protect the environment——氣質差 1.5 個 Band。

Some argue economic growth and environmental protection cannot coexist.
The supposed conflict between growth and the environment is increasingly a matter of timing rather than substance: a credible transition to renewable energy is now compatible with the same productivity gains that fossil-based expansion once delivered. Cutting carbon emissions at the speed required will not be painless, but a properly designed just transition retrains affected workers rather than abandoning them, while a carbon tax ensures that the cost of greenhouse gas emissions sits with those who generate them. The circular economy, by reusing materials that current systems treat as waste, simultaneously mitigates climate change and reduces import dependency. Critics warn of competitiveness losses, yet countries that adopt sustainable practices earliest tend to dominate the export markets that follow. Treating sustainability as a constraint on prosperity misreads the evidence; ignoring biodiversity and habitat loss entirely is the more reliable route to long-term economic damage.
