Not only has social media reshaped political discourse, but it has also fundamentally altered what we call "public opinion".

這一句在 Band 8 essay 裡非常標準，在 Band 6 essay 裡幾乎不會出現。為什麼？——因為倒裝要求你同時掌握語序反轉、時態搭配、助動詞提前三件事。錯一個就扣分、對了就加分。正確用一次，Examiner 直接認定你語法範圍到位。

倒裝句是什麼

一般句子語序：主詞 + 助動詞 + 動詞 I have rarely seen such a sight.

倒裝語序：把副詞／否定片語提到句首，然後助動詞與主詞對調。 Rarely have I seen such a sight.

對調的只有助動詞跟主詞——不是全句反轉。沒有助動詞的句子要補 do / does / did。

六個最高報酬的倒裝模式

模式 1：Not only ... but also ...

最高 CP 值的一個——Task 2 幾乎每一題都能用。

Not only has the policy reduced emissions, but it has also created over 50,000 jobs.

結構：Not only + [助動詞 + 主詞 + 動詞], but + [主詞 + also + 助動詞 + 動詞]

使用時機：討論雙重效果、雙重影響、雙重理由。

模式 2：Rarely / Seldom have I ...

強調某事「很少」發生——帶點驚嘆語氣。

Rarely has any single technology reshaped society as rapidly as the smartphone. Seldom do governments act decisively on long-term problems.

結構：Rarely / Seldom + 助動詞 + 主詞 + 動詞

使用時機：Task 2 的 introduction 或 conclusion——開場或總結。

模式 3：Never before ...

強調「前所未有」——氣候、科技、全球化類題目的神器。

Never before have human activities affected the climate on such a scale. Never before has information been so accessible — or so unreliable.

結構：Never before + 助動詞（have / has）+ 主詞 + 過去分詞

使用時機：Task 2 introduction 講到當代獨特現象。

模式 4：Only then / Only when / Only by ...

強調「唯有如此才...」——Task 2 conclusion 的 showcase。

Only by addressing the structural causes can we hope to reverse the trend. Only when governments cooperate will meaningful progress be made. Only then can genuine change begin.

結構：Only + [副詞子句] + 助動詞 + 主詞 + 動詞

使用時機：Task 2 的 conclusion——提解方、下定論時。

模式 5：Hardly / Scarcely had ... when ...

敘述「幾乎還沒...就...」——Task 1 地圖或事件時序描述。

Hardly had the reforms been introduced when critics began to demand their reversal. Scarcely had the factory opened when environmental concerns arose.

結構：Hardly / Scarcely + had + 主詞 + 過去分詞 + when + 主詞 + 過去簡單

使用時機：描述兩件緊接發生的過去事件。

模式 6：Under no circumstances / At no time ...

強烈否定——道德、法律、政策類語氣。

Under no circumstances should children be exposed to such content. At no time has the international community been more divided. On no account can we afford to ignore the evidence.

結構：否定片語 + 助動詞 + 主詞 + 動詞

使用時機：表達強烈反對立場——Task 2 agree/disagree 題型特別適合。

規則：原句的助動詞提到主詞前；若原句沒有助動詞（現在簡單/過去簡單），加 do / does / did。

什麼時候不要用倒裝

這是一個容易過度使用的結構——用一次是優雅，用三次是做作。

  1. 一篇 Task 2 最多兩次——放在 introduction 或 conclusion
  2. body 段落通常不用——body 段是在論證，倒裝會打斷邏輯
  3. Task 1 幾乎不用——Task 1 是描述數據，倒裝過於文學
  4. Speaking Part 1 絕對不用——Part 1 要求自然對話，倒裝會顯得像背書
  5. Speaking Part 2 / Part 3 可以用 1 次——但只用 Not only ... but also 這類「比較口語」的形式

常見錯誤

錯誤 1：忘記對調

❌ Not only the policy has reduced emissions... ✅ Not only has the policy reduced emissions...

錯誤 2：缺助動詞

❌ Rarely a country has achieved such growth. ✅ Rarely has a country achieved such growth.

錯誤 3：時態用錯

❌ Never before we have seen such a change. ✅ Never before have we seen such a change.（助動詞必須對調）

錯誤 4：Only if 子句倒裝位置錯

❌ Only if we act, we will succeed. ✅ Only if we act will we succeed.（倒裝發生在主句，不是 if 子句）

規則：Only if / Only when / Only by 後面的子句不倒裝——倒裝的是主句。

錯誤 5：把 also 放錯

❌ Not only has the government failed, but also it has made things worse. ✅ Not only has the government failed, but it has also made things worse.

公式：but + 主詞 + also + 動詞——also 在主詞後、動詞前。

最後的提醒

倒裝是 Band 8 的簽名招式——但前提是你已經掌握：

基礎沒做好就用倒裝 = 前功盡棄——Examiner 看到一個倒裝句夾在五個冠詞錯誤中間，反而扣更多分（因為顯得你在 showcase 不熟練的結構）。

所以：先把前七個 grammar deep-dive 練到 95% 準確，再用倒裝當封頂招式。
