I like Taiwanese food. It's delicious." Band 5.5。

My go-to comfort food is beef noodle soup — slow-braised beef, hand-pulled noodles, and a broth that's been simmering for hours."

| 詞彙 | 中文 | 使用範例 | |------|------|---------| | savoury | 鹹香的(與 sweet 對) | I prefer savoury snacks to sweet ones. | | fragrant | 香氣四溢的 | The broth is incredibly fragrant. | | indulgent | 放縱/享受的 | It's an indulgent treat on weekends. | | acquired taste | 需要適應的口味 | Stinky tofu is definitely an acquired taste. | | staple food | 主食 | Rice is our staple food. | | home-cooked | 家常的 | I miss my mum's home-cooked meals. |

What's your favourite food?"

Weak (Band 5): My favourite food is Taiwanese food. I like beef noodle. It's delicious. I eat it many times.

Band 7+: If I had to pick just one, it would be beef noodle soup — it's basically Taiwan's national dish. There's a tiny shop about ten minutes from my flat where the broth has apparently been simmering for over twenty years, and every bowl comes with this deep, almost beefy fragrance you can smell from across the street. It's my go-to whenever I'm a bit homesick or just had a rough day.

升級點

  • Taiwan's national dish — cultural framing
  • tiny shop about ten minutes from my flat — 具體地點
  • apparently been simmering for over twenty years — 具體數字 + hedging (apparently)
  • my go-to — 地道片語

Do you enjoy cooking?"

Weak: Yes, I like cooking. I can cook some simple food. My mum teaches me.

Band 7+: Yeah, genuinely — it's one of my favourite ways to unwind. I'm not going to claim I'm any good, but I can handle a decent stir-fry, and I'm slowly getting better at a proper braised pork rice, which my grandma taught me the old-fashioned way. There's something really satisfying about chopping, stirring, tasting as you go — it's much more meditative than people give it credit for.

Do you eat healthily?"

Band 7+: I'd say mostly, yes — but I'd be lying if I claimed I never slip. My weekdays are pretty clean: lots of vegetables, grilled protein, not much processed stuff. Weekends are a different story — Taiwan has a genuinely world-class night market scene, and saying no to stinky tofu or popcorn chicken every single weekend just isn't realistic. I think of it as a reasonable compromise.

「Street food vs restaurants」

I genuinely love both, for pretty different reasons. Street food in Taiwan is its own category — it's quick, cheap, and honestly some of the best food you can find anywhere. There's no fuss. But sit-down restaurants have their place too, especially when you want to actually sit and talk rather than eat on a plastic stool in 35-degree heat. I'd say street food for solo or casual nights, restaurants for catching up with people.
