很多考生講 "I like pop music because it is very relaxing and makes me happy."

1:"I've been really into..."
比 "I like..."
I've been really into lo-fi hip-hop lately — it's my go-to study soundtrack. I've been really into Scandinavian crime novels this year, for some reason.
句型 2:"I'm not a huge fan of..."
比 "I don't like..."
I'm not a huge fan of loud electronic music — it gives me a headache after about 10 minutes. I'm not a huge fan of romance novels, to be honest — they're just not my thing.
句型 3:"It sort of depends on my mood."
It sort of depends on my mood. If I'm working, something instrumental; if I'm running, something upbeat; if I'm winding down, jazz or classical.
全部都 "I really like" = Band 6。

What kind of music do you like?"
Weak: I like pop music. It is relaxing and happy.
Band 7+: It sort of depends on my mood, honestly. I've been really into lo-fi hip-hop for the past six months or so — it's got this soothing, slightly lazy rhythm that's perfect when I'm studying. But when I'm out running, I need something much more upbeat, so I'll switch to K-pop or mainstream Western pop. What I'm not a huge fan of is heavy metal — the volume alone exhausts me.
Has your taste in music changed?"
Band 7+: Definitely — it's shifted quite a bit. As a teenager I was deep into mainstream K-pop — mostly whatever my friends were listening to, if I'm honest. In my early twenties I went through a big indie rock phase, partly because of a roommate who was obsessed with British bands. These days I find myself gravitating towards instrumental stuff — jazz, ambient, film scores — probably because I just want less stimulation after a long day.
升級點:三個人生階段 + 社交脈絡(roommate who was obsessed)+ 反思(probably because I just want less stimulation)。
Print books or e-books?"
Band 7+: I've honestly gone back and forth on this. E-books are obviously more practical — I can carry fifty books on a trip, and I can highlight things without ruining a page. But there's something about a physical book I can't quite let go of — the smell of a second-hand shop, the way you can flip back to something you half-remember. I suppose I read novels on my Kindle and keep non-fiction in print.
Do you think people read less now?"
Band 7+: Yeah, I'd say fewer people read full books for sure. Most of my friends read constantly — but it's articles, newsletters, maybe Twitter threads. The attention span for a whole novel seems to have shrunk. That said, audiobook subscriptions have exploded, so maybe reading hasn't died so much as shifted into a different format. It sort of depends on how you define "reading".
升級點:用 it sort of depends + 承認相反證據(audiobooks)= Band 7+ 的 nuance 信號。
常見 rookie mistakes
- "The music is very good to me" — 台式語序。 I find this music really good.
- "I like to read the book" — 泛指讀書時不加 the。I like reading / I like to read。
- "My favourite singer is Jay Chou. He is very handsome and his songs are nice." His lyrics are genuinely clever — he plays with Chinese wordplay in a way almost no one else does.
- "I read a book every day" — 如果不是真的,不要講。
