Silence for 5 seconds. Panic face. "Um... um... I forgot the word..."

"...and we went to a restaurant that was kind of... I don't know the exact word, but it was a really simple, family-run place..."

Target word you forgot: unpretentious. Substituted with: "simple, family-run place".

Band 7 still! Because you explained around it without breaking flow.

  • I can't think of the exact word, but basically it's [description].
  • It's kind of [simpler synonym], if that makes sense.
  • There's a specific word for this — it's on the tip of my tongue — but it's [basic description].
  • I'm not sure how to phrase it, but the idea is [description].

Flow > precision。

停頓 3 秒 → "What was I saying?"

"...and that's why the experience was so meaningful — actually, let me come back to that. Another thing that really stood out was..."

原理"let me come back to that" 承認你斷了,但優雅地跳過。

  • Actually, let me come back to that later — first I want to mention...
  • I've lost my train of thought there — but another important point is...
  • Hmm, where was I going with that... anyway, the broader picture is...

Silence. Then a weak "I don't know."

Step 1 (buy 3 seconds): "Hmm, that's a tough one — let me think..."

Step 2 (buy 3 more seconds, reframe the question): "I guess you're asking about [paraphrase]..."

Step 3 (invent something plausible): "Well, off the top of my head, I'd say..."

範例

Question: What skills do you think are most important for people to learn in the next 20 years?

You panic — you have no view on this.

Recovery: "Hmm, that's a tough one — let me think. I guess you're asking about skills for the future economy... Well, off the top of my head, I'd say adaptability is probably the most important one. The jobs that exist in 2045 will look very different from today's, and people who can learn new skills quickly will do best. Beyond that, I'd imagine digital literacy and cross-cultural communication will continue to rise in importance."

  1. "Can I come back to that? My mind just blanked for a second."
  2. "I'm sorry, could you repeat the question?"
  3. "Let me rephrase — what I'm trying to say is..."

Part 2 panic(最常發生)

Sorry, I don't know." "Sorry, I forgot." "I'm sorry, my English is not good."

修正:把 "I'm sorry" 換成 "Actually, let me rephrase that""Let me try again"——主動的語氣,不扣分。

Try this

請 speaking partner 隨機問你「完全沒準備過的題目」(例如 "What are the benefits of artificial rain?" / "Describe a law you'd change"),強迫你用恢復腳本。
